Lawline Web CLE | Dealing with New Technologies in the Legal World

January 28 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 2:30 PM ET

Attorneys and their clients are presented with new technologies on a near-daily basis. These technologies include, for example, artificial intelligence, “smart” contracts, and blockchain. Many of these technologies will impact the practice of law as well as the means by which clients conduct their personal affairs or businesses. This course will use these examples to address the impact of new technologies on attorneys and their clients and how attorneys might anticipate and evaluate the impact of new technologies.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define and anticipate “new technologies” and how these might impact the practice of law
  • Review the duties of competence under RPC 1.1, confidentiality under 1.6, and supervision under 5.1, and how they are impacted by new technologies
  • Establish a framework that attorneys can use when confronted by new technologies in their practices and by their clients

Speakers: Ronald Hedges and Gail L. Gottehrer

Difficulty level: Beginner
